What is Quality of Life?

  • is the state of well being that is a composite of two components: the ability to perform everyday activities that reflect physical, psychological, and social well-being; and patient satisfaction with levels of functioning and control of the disease
  • is the subjective evaluation of the good and satisfactory character of life as a whole
  • is the gap between the patient’s expectations and achievements. The smaller the gap, the higher the quality of life
  • represents the functional effect of an illness and its consequent therapy upon the patient as perceived by the patient
  • is defined as an individual’s overall satisfaction with life and general sense of personal well-being
  • is patient perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns
